Visit to Dairy Farm in Karapiro, New Zealand.

A friend Mat Hopkins, own a dairy farm and this dairy farm is 40 km from Hamilton, a village called Karapiro. SO i went there its 100 hectare farm, 320 milking cows, its a pasture based farming. That means its cutting the fodder from farm and bringing it and feeding it to the animals. They are really left free to graze in their habitat.

Electrical fence is put so that they can graze in their particular demarked areas. I went there and saw how the fending is done, that was pretty interesting for me.

I found New Zealand is very very big in terms of dairy exports. Frontier is a dairy co-operative that has revenues in excess of 20 Billion US Dollars.

Another interesting thing i found is that this 100 Hectare, 320 Cow Farm is managed by just one family, i would rather say just one person. So kind of automation the way the system procedure is being used is very interesting.

I found this dairy farming concept very interesting. In financial number terms it can give about 6% to 15% return on your total investment i.e debt plus equity. Decent rate of return. Very interesting business. Inspired really.
