New Zealand Two Flags. |
We discussed about the political system and how they elect the Government in New Zealand . Newzeland is as young a independent country as India is , i think it got a Independence in 1948. Still King of New Zealand is the Governor of state, however all the power is with the Parliament.
It has a very interesting system of electing Parliament and and its representative. So every citizen cast two votes, one for the person who stand up for the Election and another vote for the Party. So any party getting more than 5% vote puts their nominees in the parliament and they are the one who makes policies. And the person who wins the seat act as MP, he does not actualy go and represent the public of his constituency in the Parliament. Presently they have a kind of hung Parliament.
Largely there are two parties, Labour Party and National Party. However there are more 4 or 5 smaller parties.
Currently the debate is going on in choosing a new Flag. Whether it should be 3 or 4 star , colour should be blue or black. So what they have done is like there has been a referendum 3-4 months ago and again a referendum proposed. because people were not accepting the last referendum the way they opted the 40 designs of the 7000 submitted by various people, so currently the proposed flag has been put in the Harbour Bridge on top of it, so both flags furl there and the people will be voting for a particular flag , whether they continue with the old flag or the new designs choose for upcoming new flag. Its an interesting debate and major issue dealing with the sentiment of people.
